Another storm coming? Know how to prevent damage to your home

We have been flat out dealing with problems caused by last month’s storm. Don’t let the next one damage your home by following a few easy steps:

Don’t let it happen to you. Stay warm and dry during the next storm with these easy tips to keep your roof and drains in great form.

When the sky is clear is THE time to check over your property for damage from the storm and weak spots that will allow water in next time.

This month: Techniques to tame that tempest…

Gutters work best EMPTY. Clear them out of any debris. Scoop out wet leaves with a trowel into a shopping bag or even better, get this Aussie made gutter cleaning kit. Use a leaf blower with extension kit to blow out dry ones. Then you can re-use the leaves as a lovely mulch.

Roofs don’t last forever. Check your roof for signs of wear and tear – get a free DIY guide here. To keep the rain out, it needs an annual check. Remove or trim any dead or low hanging branches near it.

Check your ceilings for any discolouration or damp patches. Anything that might indicate a roof leak needs to be checked out.
